What Makes a Good Photograph?
The term 'photography' literally means drawing with light. A camera does not create a photograph. It can only capture the light that it 'sees' in the frame. The real tools of photography are the mind of the photographer and the creative use of the brush used to create the image - light.
With the advent of digital technology there is a temptation to abandon careful and purposeful lighting because digital cameras do offer opportunities to solve some of the TECHNICAL lighting requirements that film required. However, this approach totally dispenses with the ARTISTIC quality of light that is the true hallmark of outstanding photography.
While many architectural and interior photographers have opted for creating merely technically sufficient images I remain sold out on the use of light to paint images that resonate in the imagination, convey the form and function of a space and show your work or product in the BEST LIGHT POSSIBLE.
